Organic Yerba Mate Green (Aged) is the traditional South American energy drink in loose leaf form. Smooth, grassy, and naturally caffeinated with a unique combination of caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline — yerba mate delivers a clean, sustained energy lift that's famously different from coffee jitters. This aged green variety is milder and smoother than standard mate.

What Makes Aged Green Yerba Mate Different

Most commercial yerba mate is dried quickly at high heat (sapeco), giving it a stronger, smokier, more bitter character. Aged green mate undergoes a gentler drying and extended aging process that mellows the flavor significantly — less smoke, less bitterness, more grass and herbal complexity. The result is a mate that converts coffee skeptics and tea lovers alike.

  • Origin: South America (Argentina/Paraguay)
  • Processing: Aged green (gentler drying, extended aging)
  • Flavor notes: Grassy, fresh herb, mild bitterness, earthy green finish
  • Caffeine: Medium-high (~80 mg per serving) + theobromine + theophylline
  • Brew temp: 150–170°F (never boiling — preserves smooth flavor)
  • Steep time: 3–5 minutes
  • Traditional serve: In a gourd (mate cup) with a bombilla (metal straw)

How to Brew Yerba Mate Green

Use 1–2 tsp per 8 oz of water heated to 150–170°F. Do NOT use boiling water — it destroys the delicate green character and makes it bitter. Steep 3–5 minutes. For the traditional gourd experience, fill half the gourd with mate, tilt to one side, insert bombilla, add warm water and sip. Re-steep multiple times.
